Biography

Teoma Naccarato

Teoma completed her MFA in Dance at The Ohio State University in 2011 with a concentration in Choreography and Dance Technology. Her research focuses on the interplay of creative practice with theory, harnessing dance and multi-media to facilitate personal and social awareness and growth. Naccarato received her BFA in Contemporary Dance from Concordia University in 2004, and spent several years as an independent dancer, dance teacher and choreographer in Montreal. In 2005 she founded her company Naccarato Dance, presenting work at festivals across Canada, the United States, and South America.  Recent choreographic credits include: Gently between us (2011), Exposure (2010), The Muse (2010) and Lead Ocean (2009).   In 2007, Naccarato co-founded a dance for camera organization with filmmaker Desh Fernando titled Nacando Productions for which she choreographed, directed and edited numerous video dance projects. Naccarato has performed nationally and internationally with choreographers Michael Montanaro, Marianne Desjardins, Catherine Castonguay, Ilona Dougherty, Ming Shen Gu, Lillian Skove, Meghan Durham Wall, and others.  In Autumn 2011 Teoma Naccarato was a visiting lecturer in the Department of Dance at the Ohio State University, and the interdisciplinary production manager for the Experimental Media and Movement Arts Lab (EMMA). In March 2012 she will join the faculty at Florida State University as a visiting professor, teaching courses in dance composition, technique and mediated performance.  For information on past, present and upcoming projects visit www.naccarato.org/dance.
